While only 20 minutes from town and just 2.5 hours from Reno and Tahoe, the fully equipped ranch house is a perfect perch for a couple or small family desiring endless quiet and boundless solitude. Rural and secluded, this unusual home is off-the-grid, supported by solar panels and a back-up generator. Not without the creature comforts; wireless Internet and satellite TV are also available.

Situated in the high desert, Wild Rose Station Lee Vining lodging is located at 7,200 feet elevation overlooking the magical and ancient inland sea, Mono Lake and the lake's islands. A great place to be during a rain or snow storm. The kitchen includes a microwave, oven, coffee-maker, espresso-maker, fine dishware and glass ware, an iron and ironing board.

Unbelievable landscapes, breathtaking 360 degree vistas from every vantage point. Wild Rose Station is a very private retreat, self contained Mono Lake accommodations, ideal for a young family, honeymoon couples or an individual seeking spiritual solitude.

This one of a kind vacation rental is accessed along a gated driveway and includes a single car garage. Well behaved dogs may be considered with a deposit.

Couple's Retreat, Small Family or Individual's Private Hideway The restful master bedroom includes a Stickley queen sized bed with atempurpedic mattress and a warm, wood-burning stove and 19th/20th century paintings by the owner's great-grandfather, Harry C. Best.

The bedroom looking out to the well-lighted living room also includes a woodstove with forced air heating back-up to keeps the home toasty warm on winter's crisp, high desert nights.

Spring and Summer visitors enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities including hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, fishing, and exploration of the surrounding Mono Lake natural history. Guests have access to nearby hot springs and cross-country skiing out the front door. The owner has also made available for your use; a fiberglass canoe (seats 2 - 4), a plastic kayak (seats 2), Alden rowing shell (seats 1) and lifejackets and oars.

This charming home is approximately 1800 square feet and includes a full kitchen, bedroom, livingroom, dining room, library, sleeping loft, bathroom, washer and dryer and plenty of tasty Sierra well water.

Wild Rose Station also features an extensive library filled with photographic art as well as local history and natural history books and local resouces. This private home is especially nice for those who desire long quiet days of birdwatching, stargazing or exploring the area steeped historic lore and geological wonders. Lee Vining and Mono Lake are located at the foot of Tioga Pass the highest paved road in the US and the eastern gateway to Yosemite National Park. In the winter months guest might enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing from the house or alpine skiing at nearby (35 miles) or (45 miles) ... both visible from the ranch. The area is also frequented by mountain climbers ice climbing enthusiast. Fishermen, too find some of the finest lakes and streams year round all within minutes from the ranch in California and Nevada. Mono Lake supports the largest known California Gull colony in the world. About 50,000 adults raise their young at the lake. This is over 95 per cent of California's breeding population. Gulls have been crossing the Sierra for thousands of years to raise their young on Mono Lake's islands. They arrive in April and by nesting on the islans protect their eggs and young from coyotes, ground squirrels, snakes and other mainland predators. The chicks are nourished on brine shrimp and flies. By August the young and their parents may be seen soaring westward over the Sierras on their return journey to coastal wintering areas.

For adventuresome over night guests or children, there is also extra sleeping with the queen-sized futon mattress in loft (no standing room); and *one double futon mattress in the small, classic trailer parked at the edge of the yard.
